Miramar Volleyball Eyes Growth and Success in 2024
As the Miramar Jets volleyball team gears up for the upcoming season, head coach Nancy Ros shares her excitement and optimism for the program's future. With a fresh roster and a renewed focus on growth, the team is poised to make significant strides in their conference.
Striving for Yearly Growth
"We are striving for growth year over year," Ros emphasized when discussing the team's setup for success. "While our roster renews every couple of years, we seek for that baseline to level up as we continue to grow our program." This commitment to continuous improvement has been a driving force behind the team's progress, and Ros is determined to build on the momentum from last season.
A New Era at Miramar
The atmosphere around Miramar Athletics is charged with energy and ambition. "There is a certain buzz in athletics recently, for sure," Ros noted. "There is a great conscious effort from all of athletics to raise the Jets brand, and that is exciting." This collective push to elevate the school's athletic programs is creating an environment ready for success.
Closing the Gap with Top Teams
When asked about the margin between Miramar and the top teams in the conference, Ros acknowledged the challenges but remained optimistic. "It's tough to quantify, but the margin is getting slimmer," she said. "Two years ago, we were tied at the bottom of the barrel. Last year, we took a nice jump to the middle of the pack. This year, we seek to compete with the top three." The team is focused on narrowing the gap and positioning themselves as serious contenders.
Excitement for the Season Ahead
Despite having an almost entirely new roster, Ros is enthusiastic about the team's potential. "We have an almost completely fresh roster with only one returning starter," she shared. "But our size and overall volleyball IQ has increased." The incoming talent brings a different dynamic to the team, one that Ros believes will translate into success on the court.
Key Returners and Promising Newcomers
Coach Ros is particularly excited about the return of Logan Mendez, the team's sole returning starter. "She brings such an amazing attitude to the game and our team. A great balance of feistiness and fun," Ros said. As for the newcomers, Katie Springs stands out as a player to watch. "Katie has the kind of athleticism and work ethic all coaches long for and appreciate. She's got a fresh outlook, having not played volleyball since her sophomore year of high school. She's a highflyer and a serious presence at the net."
A New Feel for the Season
Heading into this season, Coach acknowledges that it feels different from the last. "Last year, we had a sophomore-heavy squad. This year, almost everyone is new, so it's a completely different feel altogether. We have added a little more depth to the roster, so there are more lineup options, which is nice," she explained. The increased depth gives Ros more flexibility in her game plan, a welcome change from previous years.
Looking Forward to a Thrilling Season
As the new season approaches, Coach Ros is confident that the team will reach new heights. "We have an energetic group of student-athletes with some real spunk that are seeking to take Miramar Volleyball to new heights," she said. Fans can expect an exciting season as the Jets aim to make a deep run at the conference title and playoffs.
