Head Soccer Coach Ernie Reyes: "We Are Looking to Dominate"
As the new season draws near, the Miramar Women's Soccer team is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and competitive year. With a renewed focus on detail and accountability, the team is set to make waves in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC).
Setting Up for Success
Coach Reyes is confident about the groundwork laid for the team's success this season. "We are really detail-oriented," he explains. "The group we brought in this year has been on top of the things they need to do, and they are holding themselves accountable both on and off the field." This strong sense of responsibility among the players is expected to translate into positive results on the pitch.
A New Era at Miramar
The future looks bright for Miramar's athletics, with a focus on building competitive teams and providing top-notch facilities. "The new era is looking great," Coach Reyes says. "We are creating very competitive athletic teams; we have some of the best facilities in San Diego, and we have a very supportive staff that wants the best for our student-athletes." This supportive environment is key to fostering success across all sports programs at Miramar.
Closing the Gap with Top Teams
When asked about the team's standing compared to top competitors, Coach Reyes acknowledges the ongoing challenge. "I would say we are always striving to get better, and the PCAC on the women's soccer side is always going to be competitive because of the talent here in San Diego." The relentless pursuit of improvement is what drives the team forward, ensuring they remain a formidable force in the conference.
Chasing Conference Titles and Playoff Spots
Coach Reyes is excited about the potential of this year's squad. "I believe we have a very competitive team this year. We are deep in every position," he notes. Reflecting on the previous season, he recalls, "We were one spot out of a state playoff spot last year due to something out of our control, but we are looking to make a run this year." With a more robust roster and a strong sense of purpose, the team is determined to secure a playoff spot and contend for the conference title.
Key Returners and Promising Newcomers
This season, the team will rely on the leadership of its returning players. "We only have two coming back, and we're looking at them to lead this new group and show what Miramar soccer is about," Coach Reyes shares. As for the newcomers, he is equally enthusiastic. "Everyone that is coming in is exciting because they see the vision Miramar is headed in, and they are a very talented group we were fortunate to bring in."
A Different Feel for the New Season
Heading into this season feels markedly different from the last, and for good reason. "Absolutely," Coach Reyes says. "Last year, the stress of trying to put a team together late was hard. This year, having a full year of recruiting and understanding of the collegiate game has definitely eased the stress." With more time to prepare and recruit, the team is in a much stronger position to compete.
Learning from Last Year's Challenges
Reflecting on what went wrong last year, Coach Reyes points to the lack of depth as a significant hurdle. "Last year, we didn't have the depth on the field, only having 14 on the roster. This year, we have around 20, which is great, and we have a more well-rounded group," he explains. The increased roster size and balance across positions should give the team the flexibility and resilience needed to navigate a challenging season.
A Call to Fans
For those considering coming out to support the team, Coach Reyes has a clear message: "Be ready to watch some entertaining soccer this year. We are looking to dominate in all facets on the field, and it's going to be a fun process to watch." With a mix of talent, depth, and determination, Miramar Women's Soccer is set to deliver an exciting season that fans won't want to miss.
As the season approaches, the team's hard work and preparation promise to pay off, making them a team to watch in the PCAC. Under Coach Reyes's leadership, Miramar is poised to achieve great things on the field and continue building a legacy of excellence in women's soccer.
