Men's Volleyball ’25 Season: Coach Gino Gamboa Sets Sights on Success
As Miramar College's Men's Volleyball team prepares for another season, head coach Gino Gamboa is optimistic about what lies ahead. With a new roster, added depth, and a competitive mindset, the Jets are ready to compete in the 3C2A and make a mark in their season debut on January 24th.
A Setup for Success
"This season brings about a new roster and added depth. Along with the support of our athletic administration, I believe our team is set up in a really good spot to succeed this season," Gamboa said.
After a sophomore-heavy squad last year, this season introduces new talent that is already raising the competitive level within the team.
A New Era at Miramar
"Last year's team was sophomore heavy, so this year brings about many new but talented volleyball players," Gamboa explained. "The team is pushing each other day in and day out to make sure that we are prepared for high-level matches against all the talented teams in the 3C2A."
The Single-Sport Conference format marks a key change for Miramar this year. Gamboa sees it as an exciting opportunity. "This new format brings about exciting new changes for our schedule as we now get the opportunity to play all the 3C2A men's volleyball teams."
Narrow Margins, High Expectations
After observing the competition in the Fall Showcase, Gamboa believes his team is right in the mix. "I believe the margin is narrow. I know we have the pieces to compete with the top teams. The team is eager to step out on the court to show what they can do this year."
Key Players and Depth
Returning standouts like William Fabrie and Daniel Fountain are expected to play significant roles. "Will earned all-conference honorable mention last year and was a consistent performer for us in the middle position. Daniel has capitalized on the experience he got from last year as an outside and has come back this year playing some of his best volleyball," Gamboa noted.
With most of the roster being new, Gamboa expressed excitement about the fresh faces: "It is honestly really hard to pinpoint only a few newcomers I'm excited about since most of the group is new and are eager for an opportunity to step out on the court."
Focused on Consistency
Gamboa is setting a high bar for his team this year, with a balanced approach: "This team is filled with a bunch of hungry competitors. I am very excited to see how the team handles the adversity of our season. A conference title in the first year of our new conference would be ideal, but I want us to take this season match by match. We need to play consistent high-level volleyball all season long so we can put ourselves in a position to make a deep playoff run."
Looking back at last season, Gamboa identified a key improvement: "Last year's group was extremely talented, but our depth was limited. With this new added depth, I believe we will be able to step up our preparation."
A Call to Fans
For fans considering attending matches this year, Gamboa emphasized the energy and dedication of his players. "I would want the fans to know the whole team has been working hard to represent our team well. They are a bunch of high-energy, intense athletes ready to be challenged."
The Jets are ready to take off in 2025 with their sights set on success in their new conference and beyond.
