Miramar MVB Captures 2022 PCAC Championship
Miramar MVB today captured the 2022 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship, winning its 7th straight match with a 3-0 sweep of host Palomar. In doing so, the Jets also earned the conference's automatic berth into the CCCAA state playoffs, to be played in the second half of April.
The match started off with a twist, as head coaches John Landicho of Miramar and Mark Smith of Palomar, agreed to use lineups composed almost entirely of non-starters in set 1. With both teams' starters now on each team's benches cheering on their teammates, Miramar's crew of Nick Everett, Tyler Lyons, Parsa Agha Mohieddin, Gage Dondanville, Isaack Grant, and Kenny Wahlstrom joined starting opposite Cameron Einhorn (in for setting duties) in building big leads throughout set 1. Reserve MB Kobe Schmidt joined in at the end of the set as the Jets closed out the Comets 25-20. The starters returned to the lineup for set 2, and with setter James McMillan evenly distributing the ball and MB's Garrett Garcia and Parker Brown causing havoc in the front row and from the service line, Miramar ably won sets 2 and 3 25-18, 25-16.
Miramar MVB will enjoy a shortened Spring Break before returning to the court on April 6th and 8th to close out PCAC play against Mesa and Grossmont.
