Miramar MVB's Miles Dewhirst signs with NCAA D-1 Merrimack College
Miramar MVB sophomore Miles Dewhirst today signed with NCAA Division 1 Merrimack College, in North Andover, MA. Dewhirst will join the Warriors for their inaugural season of men's volleyball, in 2023.
Dewhirst goes to Merrimack after one of the finest seasons ever put together by a Jets MVB player. After being a member of the program in 2020-21 but not playing at all after a COVID-cancelled season, Dewhirst was a season-long starter for the Jets, the 2022 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference champions. He finished the 2022 season ranked 1st in the CCCAA in aces per set, 2nd in hitting efficiency, and 2nd in total aces. Dewhirst, from Fallbrook HS in Fallbrook, CA, earned PCAC men's volleyball Athlete of the Year honors after the season, and was also a member of the All-PCAC MVB first team.
Dewhirst will become a member of the first-ever MVB team for Merrimack. The Warriors will join six other Northeast Conference programs in the NEC's first season of men's volleyball, joining the Big West Conference as the second multi-sports Division 1 conference to sponsor men's volleyball. Dewhirst will play for head coach Ray Lewis, who led Central State University to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference conference and tournament championships in the Marauders' first season of men's volleyball, in 2022 before his appointment at Merrimack.
Fulfilling a fundamental goal of the Miramar MVB program, Dewhirst becomes the 15th Jets player to move on to a NCAA or NAIA men's volleyball program, since 2016. He is the third consecutive Jet to sign with a NCAA D-1 program. Congrats Miles and GO JETS!
