Making Waves: Men’s Swim Prepares for Inaugural Season
A new era is set to begin at Miramar College as the Men's Swim Team launches its first-ever competitive season under Head Coach Paul Mazzarelle. With a dedicated group of student-athletes and a structured training program, the foundation is in place for immediate and long-term success.
Building a Foundation for Success
"We've built a strong foundation with dedicated student-athletes, a committed coaching staff, and a vision for long-term success," Mazzarelle said. "Our training program is designed to maximize individual and team performance, focusing on teamwork, technique, effort, race strategy, and fun! We're also creating a culture of team unity and accountability that will set us up for both immediate and future success."
The team's preparation is centered around consistency, development, and fostering a competitive environment that will push athletes to reach their full potential.
A New Era for Miramar Athletics
"It's an exciting time for Miramar College athletics as we establish a competitive swim program from the ground up," Mazzarelle said. "This new era is all about setting standards, creating traditions, and making our mark in the conference. Our swimmers are motivated to make history and lay the foundation for something special."
Miramar's expansion into men's and women's swim is a major step for the athletic department, providing student-athletes with another opportunity to compete at the collegiate level.
Closing the Gap with the Best
As the program enters its first season, the team is still measuring itself against conference competition. Rather than focusing solely on immediate results, Miramar is committed to a steady climb toward excellence.
"Since this is our first season, we're still assessing how we stack up against the top teams in the conference," Mazzarelle said. "The focus is on steady improvement, race by race, and building towards competing at the highest level."
A Roster of First-Year Competitors
With no returning athletes, this season's roster is made up entirely of newcomers. However, many swimmers bring previous experience from high school and club programs, while others transition from Miramar's successful men's water polo team.
"Since this is our inaugural season, we don't have returners in the traditional sense," Mazzarelle said. "However, I'm excited about the leadership emerging from our first-year student-athletes. Some of our swimmers already have a wealth of experience from high school and club swimming, and strong aquatic experience and comfort as members of our Intercollegiate Water Polo Team, and they're stepping up to lead by example."
Every member of the team will play a key role in establishing the program's foundation.
"Every swimmer on this roster is a newcomer, which makes this season even more exciting," Mazzarelle said. "We have a great mix of student-athletes showing a lot of potential in practice, and I can't wait to see how they perform in competition."
A Season Worth Watching
With the inaugural season about to begin, Mazzarelle encourages fans to come out and support the team.
"Come be part of history! This is the first-ever Miramar College swim season, and you'll witness a team full of passion, determination, and the drive to compete," he said. "Every race will showcase our hard work, and your support will mean the world to our swimmers as they put everything on the line in the pool."
