Miramar MVB's Landicho to also lead Jets WVB
Jun 24, 2021

Miramar MVB head coach John Landicho will also assume the role of head coach of the Jets women's volleyball program, beginning with the upcoming 2021 WVB season.

The move takes advantage of Landicho's presence on-campus as a full-time professor and coach, and for the college is the next step in developing a comprehensive volleyball program for the campus. Both a sand volleyball team and accompanying sand volleyball courts, are in the final stages of planning for the near future. Landicho takes over for Mark Smith, who started the Miramar WVB program in 2018.

"I am honored to lead Miramar WVB," stated Landicho. "I look forward to bringing the culture and process of our championship-winning MVB program over to the women's program, and write a new chapter for Jets WVB. I also look forward to helping the Miramar Athletic Department continue planning for the addition of sand volleyball to our programs, with a vision of having a great volleyball program and culture for student-athletes to take advantage of and experience."

Landicho brings great women's volleyball experience to Jets WVB. His five CIF girls volleyball state championships (two as a head coach) is a San Diego County record. Landicho's last work as a head coach in a GVB program, for Francis Parker HS, resulted in a 64-7 record over two seasons and two CIF state titles. At the JC level, he has also helped WVB teams at Grossmont and San Diego Mesa Colleges to Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championships as an assistant coach.

In his role leading Miramar MVB, the program has produced two PCAC championships and one state Top 5 ranking (in the pandemic-interrupted 2020 season), while placing 13 student-athletes into four-year university MVB programs, in its first six years of existence

Miramar WVB continues to recruit for the 2021 season, starting in late July. Interested student athletes can contact Coach Landicho at 619-388-7893. or via e-mail at jlandich@sdccd.edu. Go Jets!
