Bio
Austin joins the Miramar College coaching staff as an Assistant Coach for both the men's and women's water polo teams for the 2025 season. Prior to joining the Jets, Austin served as the Head Varsity Boys Water Polo Coach at Poway High School for five seasons between 2020-2024, where he led the Titans to multiple CIF and league accolades.
During his time at Poway, Austin guided the team to the 2020 CIF Division 1 Championship title and was named the 2020 CIF Division 1 Coach of the Year. In 2021, the Titans finished as CIF Division 1 runner-up, followed by a Palomar League Championship title in 2022. Under his leadership, Poway earned CIF Open Division playoff appearances from 2022 through 2025 and qualified as a CIF Division 2 state contender in 2022.
In addition to his high school coaching career, Austin has been active at the club level with Poway Valley Water Polo and Del Mar Water Polo Club. He currently serves as Club Director at Poway Valley, where his accomplishments include a 3rd place finish in the 16U Silver Division at the 2022 Junior Olympics, a 1st place finish in the 16U Gold Division at the 2023 Junior Olympics, and a 1st place finish in the 18U Bronze Division at the 2025 Junior Olympics. In 2023, he was honored with the Pacific Southwest Scholastic Coaching Award, and in 2024, served as the Pacific Southwest 13U Olympic Development Coach.
As an athlete, Austin competed for Del Mar Water Polo Club and Cathedral Catholic High School. He was a two-time CIF Open Division champion in 2015 and 2016, and a runner-up in 2017. With Del Mar, he helped the team earn a 2nd place finish in the Platinum Division of the Junior Olympics National Championship. His playing career also includes international experience in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Spain.
Austin earned his Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science and his Science Teaching Credential from California State University, San Marcos.
