Jets end the season on Sophomore Night!
November 15, 2022
We want to congratulate Miramar College's Women's Volleyball Coaches and student-athletes on a job well done this season! We wish our sophomores Good Luck in their next steps of their journey!
We were able to speak with Head Coach Nancy Ros as she reflected on her first season with San Diego Miramar College.
1. Your first full season is done at SDMC, what are your reflections on the season?
We are so proud of our team. Kaja and I had dinner after the match last night and the resounding theme was that the improvement was vast overall. And that even with all the losses the team stayed incredibly positive and drama free.
2. What was your most exciting moment with the team?
I want to say the win at Cuyamaca but we played so well that entire match that it was somewhat anticlimactic at the end. I think the most exciting moment was our match against Mesa when we pushed to within one late in the game and forced a time out. There were so many huge digs and blocks in that match.. really fun high level volleyball. Another exciting moment with the team was our 3rd set vs Southwestern, we were beat up the first two sets and had an amazing comeback including super exciting rallies capped with Aliyah leaving the court for a quick bathroom break and comes back just in time to serve game point!
3. How has the transition been to community college and what is your favorite part about being a Jet?
The transition has been relatively smooth. I think the biggest shift is having such a short time to develop the athletes/team to be match ready. In high school, there is usually one or two years of training a kid before they get to your varsity squad and make an impact on the court. Here at Juco you need to hit the ground running. But I'm so excited to have most of the squad for a 2nd year. My favorite part about being a Jet is the opportunity to truly build and grow a program in my community. With such a tight knit athletic program and great support from our admin and trainers, the sky is the limit!
4. Goals for offseason?
It's a big off season for us. We need to recruit some size, both as in some bigger players but also have a full squad of 14-16 athletes to help foster more competition when we train and be able to absorb injuries a bit better. The team is already hungry to be back in the gym and train even right after last night's loss I love. So glad we will have spring with most of them on the sand to keep getting touches.
5. What should someone do who is interested in playing beach volleyball for Miramar College?
We are so stoked to have our inaugural beach season and really hope athletes will be interested in being a part of that. It's such a different game so even if someone hasn't played indoor, if they are athletic, it can be learned. And our brand new courts are beautiful! We will train spring semester 8:30-10:30 am. And matches are Friday mornings March-April. Interested student athletes can contact me at nros@sdccd.edu or 619.520.4300.
