Jets WWP goes 2-0 at L.A. Valley College mini-tournament

The Miramar women?s water polo team opened its 2017 campaign with two wins at the LA Valley College mini tournament, earning a 7-5 win against host LA Valley and an 11-8 victory against Pasadena City.

In the first match against LA Valley, the Jets scored first after drawing an early ejection in the first minute and a half, with Antoinette Gonzalez finding the net. Maria Castaneda (2 goals), Jenelle Nelson and Meredith Muecke added first half goals. Gaby Rangel scored a buzzer-beater as the third quarter ended, and the Jets would add a late goal while stiffening on defense for the 7-5 win.

Match two saw Pasadena forge a 3-2 lead to finish the first quarter. Jets head coach Amy Jennings made adjustments and Miramar drew even 5-5 going into half time. Three unanswered goals by Muecke (2) and Castaneda created a 3-goal lead that the Lady Jets would not relinquish.

Jets WWP returns to the water on Wednesday, Sept. 27th, against Southwestern at 2:00pm at the Baumer Aquatic Complex at Miramar.
