San Diego Miramar College's Karolina Salazar (women's soccer) and basketball player Drew Peterson (men's basketball) have been selected as the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Athletes of the Week, for the week that ended Sunday, Nov. 23rd.

Salazar, a sophomore forward from Escondido High School, scored her fifth goal in Miramar's last six games as the Jets, who received a first-round bye, defeated Los Angeles Pierce in overtime 2-1 in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Salazar scored in the ninth minute off Sinai Garcia's assist to give Miramar a 1-0 lead on the way to its ninth victory in a row. The Jets (16-2-2), champions of the PCAC's Northern Division, will take a 17-game unbeaten streak into the third round.

She previously scored the game's only goal as Miramar defeated PCAC runner-up Mt. San Jacinto (15-3-3) in a 1-0 match-up that determined the division champion.

Peterson, a 6-foot-4 sophomore forward from St. Augustine High School, single-handedly took over the game as Miramar defeated Orange Coast 75-67 in overtime.

He hit a 3-pointer late in regulation to pull the Jets to within two points. On the next passion, Peterson converted two free throws with 2 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In the OT, Peterson made six straight free throws to clinch the victory on the road at OCC.

Peterson came right back to lead Miramar to a 77-69 victory over Riverside City College by connecting on seven 3-point shots en route to a 32-point performance. He also pulled down eight rebounds against the Tigers.
