SAN DIEGO MIRAMAR COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER RANKED #6 IN NATION
MIRA MESA — In the season ending poll just released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Community College Division III, San Diego Miramar College women's soccer is ranked #6 in the nation and the only community college in the San Diego region to be recognized in the top 20 nationwide.
Coming off their 2012 undefeated season, the lady Jets dominated the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) again in 2013, accumulating a 16-3-3 record, winning the conference title and the PCAC North championship, then advancing in statewide play as an Elite 8 team. In only its seventh year of existence, the Miramar College women's soccer program, led by former soccer pro, head coach Sean Bowers, have won four straight PCAC conference titles.
Final state rankings placed Miramar #1 in the PCAC North Division and ranked seven Jets as the leading season point scorers — Nina Ramirez (Murietta Valley HS), Paulina Salazar (Escondido HS), Samantha Schmidt (Ramona HS), Danielle Kashou (West Hills HS), Alexa Lonsdale (Riverside), Mercedes Mercado (Victorville) and Jessica Gonzalez (Mt. Carmel HS). Goalkeeper Stephanie Carlson (Mira Mesa HS) ranked #2 in Northern Division goalkeeping leaders, which included nine shutouts in season play.
