Bio

With an extensive volleyball resume stretching from the high school & junior club scene to international men’s volleyball league play, Gino Gamboa assumed the head coaching role for Miramar MVB in May of 2023.

Gamboa rises to the head coach’s position after joining Jets MVB midway through the 2023 season as an assistant coach.  He played an important part in the Jets’ sizzling second half of the season, in which they defeated then-#4 ranked San Diego Mesa twice in three matches to capture the 2023 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) championship.  Miramar’s eight-match winning streak through the PCAC schedule was then ended by eventual 2023 CCCAA men’s volleyball champion Orange Coast, in the CCCAA quarterfinals.  Gamboa’s work would help seven Jets to All-PCAC honors, including 2023 PCAC MVB Athlete of the Year Jack LeDuff.

Gamboa also serves currently as an indoor and beach coach for Wave Volleyball Club in San Diego.  He has also held multiple positions for Main Beach VBC, Mountain View VBC, Harvard Westlake HS, Surfside VBC, and Los Angeles Volleyball Academy.  Gamboa also has professional experience as an exercise therapist, exercise specialist, physical therapy aide, and personal trainer.  

As a player, Gamboa played four years at NCAA D-III UC Santa Cruz, before logging time professionally overseas In the BUCs League and NVL Super League in England, and in the Danish 1st Division.  He has also played domestically in the National Volleyball Association (NVA).

Gamboa holds a Master’s in Clinical Exercise Physiology from Northumbria University (England), and a Bachelor’s in Human Biology from UC Santa Cruz.  He is single and resides in San Diego.
