Jets show progress in pair of 3-1 losses
Mar 13, 2015

Since winning the first match in program history against L.A. Trade Tech on February 18, the young Miramar College men's volleyball team has endured a string of five 3-0 sweeps against superior teams, sufficiently masking the slow progress of the team. That progress finally showed on the scoreboard, as the Jets finally notched set wins in two 3-1 losses, falling to SD City 25-20, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22, and losing to SD Mesa on Friday 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18.

A set two win against City set the stage for a seesaw set three between the two teams, won by the Knights in overscore and giving them momentum to a set four & match win. A lineup change by Mesa successfully negated a first set win by the Jets, propelling the Olympians to three set wins.

Against City, OPP/S Zach Wissing had a fine match, totaling 14 kills on .300 hitting, 11 digs, four aces, and 20 assists. OH Levi Vermeulen tallied 11 kills and 8 digs, OPP/S Noly Mon had 15 assists and 8 digs, while OH Caleb Deibel and MB Nate Briscoe put down 6 kills each. In the match against Mesa, Deibel led the way with 11 kills, 8 digs, and an ace; Vermeulen had 6 kills and two aces, Wissing and OPP Lance Stickney added five kills each, and Mon racked up 21 digs. Wissing also tallied 21 assists.
