Jets suffer back-to-back 3-2 losses to Palomar, Golden West
Mar 19, 2015

The all-freshman Miramar MVB team continued enduring growing pains this week, taking Palomar and Golden West to the limit on consecutive nights but falling 3-2 in both matches; 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14 to Palomar and 20-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-16, 15-10 to GW.

Wednesday evening saw the Jets and Comets trade blows through the entire match, setting the stage for a highly competitive set five in which both teams traded leads throughout before a Miramar hitting error ended the match. Thursday would see Miramar go out to a 2-0 set lead against the Rustlers, before OH Caleb Deibel had to leave the match due to illness. That opened the door for GW, which parlayed significant momentum from its set three win and then utilized its superior power and stronger middle attack to overcome the Jets, despite Deibel's return to the match.

Against Palomar, Deibel led the way with 15 kills and 8 digs, fellow OH Levi Vermeulen added 13 kills and 6 digs, and OPP Lance Stickney tallied 11K on .420 hitting. Setters Noly Mon and Andy Ruiz had 29 and 19 assissts respectively, and L Zach Wissing notched 17 digs. In the GW match, Deibel had 17K, Mon put down 11K, and Stickney added 8K. Mon and Ruiz totaled 23 and 17 assists respectively, while Wissing and Mon had 19 digs apiece.
