Bio

Kwaku Amoaku is in his sixth year with the San Diego Miramar College staff as an assistant coach.   

Amoaku started his coaching career at his alma mater, San Marcos HS, as Head J.V. Coach, where he compiled a 57-9 record.  Prior to joining the staff at Miramar, he was assistant varsity coach for San Marcos for 3 years (2006-2009) .  In 2007, the Knights were CIF-San Diego Section Division II semifinalists.  Amoaku currently still coaches AAU club basketball for Coastal Elite Sports (2001-present) – one of the premier AAU basketball programs in Southern California.   

Coach Amoaku is also the founder and CEO of the African Youth Basketball Organization (AYBO).  AYBO is a non-profit organization that seeks opportunities in education and basketball at the high school and college level for exceptional student athletes from all over Africa.  Through annual camps and clinics in Africa, AYBO is developing a grassroots love of basketball throughout the continent.  AYBO is currently based in San Diego, CA and Accra, Ghana.  

Amoaku was born in Maryland to Ghanaian parents and was raised in Dayton, Ohio, where he attended Carroll High School before moving to California.  Continuing a playing career which started at San Marcos HS and Mira Costa College, Amoaku went on to attend school and play basketball at Grand Canyon University.

“Coach Ku” holds a B.A. in Justice Studies from Grand Canyon University.  Amoaku is the son of Ellen Amoaku, and has 8 brothers and sisters.
