Brewer Final Miramar Player who Receives Conference Honors

Miramar's Brewer is conference Men's Athlete of Week
The PCAC has honored San Diego Miramar College basketball player Cole Brewer as its Men's Athlete of the Week. Brewer, the Jets' 6-foot-2 sophomore point guard from Great Oak High School in Temecula who previous played at Palomar, turned in another outstanding defensive performance as he held 6-foot-6 PCAC North Player of the Year Dewayne Benjamin of state No. 2-ranked Mt. San Jacinto to three points, 18 points below his average. Brewer outscored Benjamin, who signed early with Oregon, 10-3. The Jets bounced back from an 85-60 loss to the Eagles to finish the season with an 82-80 victory over San Diego Mesa as Brewer contributed 17 points, went 6-for-10 from the field and 5-for-6 on free throws and had two blocks. For the week, second-team All-PCAC selection Brewer was 10-for-18 shooting and was 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Brewer was coming off a strong prior week when he scored 26 points in two games. He had 13 points and nine rebounds in a 66-65 win over MiraCosta and scored 13 points in a 71-61 loss to Grossmont.
Honorable mention went to Grossmont basketball player Andres Jiminez, Palomar baseball player Anthony Fernandez and Imperial Valley baseball player James Seymore.Jiminez, 6-foot-6 freshman forward from Everett Alvarez High School in Salinas, scored 16 points to tie for game scoring honors and was 3-for-6 on 3-pointers as Grossmont upset Mt. San Jacinto 70-67 to tie the 23-4 Eagles for the Northern Division championship.Fernandez, Palomar's sophomore right fielder from Mission Hills High School, slugged a three-run home run in the first inning and finished 2-for-4 with the three RBIs and two runs scored as the three-time defending champion Comets opened PCAC play with a 7-5 win over Southwestern. The Jaguars had entered the conference opener with a 10-1 record and 10-game winning streak.J.C. Seymore, a freshman from Maricopa High School in Phoenix, went seven-plus innings, allowing two earned runs for the win, as the Arabs downed Grossmont in a PCAC opener 3-2.
