Iraniha, a sophomore from Monte Vista High School, reached the 157-pound championship match at the CCCAA State Championships in Stockton at San Joaquin Delta College's Joe Blanchard Gym on Friday and Saturday.
Iraniha defeated Nathan Mateo of Santa Ana by major decision 18-5 in the semifinals, then battled Taylor Hodel from state team champion Sacramento City College to a 5-5 tie through three regulation periods in the championship match. Hedel went on to beat Iraniha in sudden death.
Carr, a freshman guard from Mira Mesa High School where he played football instead of basketball, recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Miramar to a 76-66 victory over Orange Coast.
Carr was perfect from the field, going 6-for-6, and also was 1-for-1 from the free throw line. He also had six steals.
Honorable mention selections for the week were Palomar wrestler Junior Lule, Imperial Valley basketball player Rishawn Brown and Cuyamaca basketball player Garrett Larch-Miller.
Lule, a sophomore from Palo Verde High School in Blythe, placed second in the state tournament at 149 pounds. He was edged by Fresno City College's Martione Sandoval 7-6 on riding time in the finals. Lule and Iraniha led Palomar to a fifth-place team finish out of the 19 teams that advanced wrestlers to the state tournament.
Brown, a 5-foot-10 sophomore guard from Middletown High School in Middletown, CT who played last season for Cochise (AZ) Community College, led IVC to two wins in two games at the round-robin Intensity Classic hosted by Los Angeles Southwest College. Brown scored 17 points, going 10-for-15 from the field, as the Arabs began the tournament by routing L.A. Southwest 75-55. He had 27 points and six rebounds the following day in IVC's 76-65 win over Rio Hondo.
Larch-Miller, 6-foot-2 sophomore from Granite Hills High School who is in his second season as a starting guard for Cuyamaca, led the Coyotes to an 80-76 victory on the road over Santa Ana with 23 points and five rebounds.
